Joséphine Baker’s connections with El Palace Barcelona run deep. She stayed in the hotel when visiting Barcelona in the 1950s. On various occasions, even graced the stage of the Ritz’s famous Parilla with her unforgettable beauty and talent. Would you like to stay Joséphine Baker’s French château? The decorations for this suite were inspired by none other than the Château des Milandes, the renaissance palace she called home.
César Ritz changed the world forever when he decided to undertake his complete overhaul of the hotel world. Contemporary travel simply would not be the same without him. He sadly did not manage to stay in the hotel before his death, as he passed away just a year before it opened. We have created this art suite in his honour, to never forget the man who made history.
The history of El Palace Barcelona and the city of Barcelona have been entwined for more than a century. Since its opening in 1919, the hotel has played an important part in all aspects of Barcelonan society. The novels of Carlos Ruiz Zafón offer a carefully curated tour of Barcelona. That is why it is not surprising to find the Ritz of Barcelona mentioned in his work.
Joan Miró, one of the most famous Spanish artists of the 20th century, was born and raised in the Gothic Quarter of Barcelona – not too far from El Palace Barcelona. Even though he travelled far and wide, Miró was a man with deep roots in his homeland. The city of Barcelona and the countryside of Catalonia have a strong presence in the artist’s work. You can find works from this world-famous artist in many corners of the city.
Salvador Dalí was a frequent guest of the hotel. What is now the Salvador Dalí Art Suite, is the same place where the artist lived for extensive periods of time. Famous models would have appointments to meet him here. We have a number of surrealist anecdotes in which he stars, including the time when he became a work of art by performing in front of the press.
Can you imagine staying in the same suite as Ronnie Wood? While the legendary Rolling Stones guitarist was putting the finishing touches on his apartment in Barcelona, he stayed in the hotel’s top suite, on the sixth floor of El Palace Barcelona. Together, we have had many magical moments, including that unforgettable jam session in the Bluesman Cocktail Bar and the You Stay, You Care, You Rock charity stay.
